NORTHWEST ART HOUSE

×

Located on a rectilinear property perpendicular to the adjacent lake shore, this site includes residence, pool house, and dining pavilion structures designed by Olson Kundig Architects. Building and landscape spaces are arranged in tandem to accentuate the extended east west axis of the property while optimizing visual connections to Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains.

An arrival court including a reflecting pool flanked by Magnolia trees welcomes guests. To the south the residence sets on a pedestal formed by low terrace walls woven with plantings and broad south stairs in response to the bold horizontal lines of the architecture. Paved terraces connect to lawn, swimming pool, and edible garden. Landscape is applied to architecture in the form of rooftop plantings on the residence and pool house. The shoreline restored with native plants and a small beach improves habitat and invites lake access.
